Through my involvement with the Greater Portland Flute Society Board of Directors, I have met many well known flutists. Rose City Flute Choir (RCFC), a community performing ensemble and non-profit organization, was formed in the fall of 1986 by Treese Kjeldsen. Dedicated to weekly rehearsals and the performance of quality flute ensemble literature, we perform at a variety of community and private functions. The National Flute Choir is a group of 19 professional flutists from across the USA. Representing 14 states, they come from Alaska to Florida, Main to Southern California, and many points in between. Conducted by Amy Rice Blumenthal, this group has recorded 10 CDs. Members of this ensemble are winners of an annual National Flute Association competition open to all professional flutists and flute teachers. This group rehearses and performs at the annual National Flute Association (NFA) Convention. Phyllis performed with the Florida Flute Orchestra on their 2005 concert tour of France in March. Concerts were given in several towns in Provence, as well as the Conservatoire in Dijon. American Flute Orchestra (now known as International Flute Orchestra)
The American Flute Orchestra is composed of approximately 26 flutists from all
over the USA & Canada. The group's annual concert tour in May has seen the
group travel to Ireland, France, Germany & Austria, Italy, England, Spain,
Eastern Europe and China. Instrumentation includes bass flutes, alto
flutes, contrabass flutes, piccolo, and C-flutes. The musicians are
college teachers or orchestra musicians who enjoy sharing their musical
knowledge and love of the flute. 2004 AFO Tour to Eastern Europe
